Charles Owen Continues Tradition of Innovations with Release of Three New Products at American Equestrian Trade Association

Monday 30th January 2012

Long recognized as the leading innovator in rider safety and protection, Charles Owen continues this tradition with the release of the new SP8 helmet designed to expand on traditional helmet protection by adding crucial elements for skin protection.  Recognizing the significant amount of time the average rider spends outside, Charles Owen has designed a new profile helmet aimed at providing additional protection from the sun.

With a specially designed visor that is deeper and wider than traditional visors, the SP8 provides shade coverage for the whole face and upper neck, all the while retaining the look and style of the traditional Charles Owen helmet. This new low profile helmet also provides for rider comfort by featuring centrally located front and rear ventilation holes covered in mesh with side panels available in microfiber suede in either all black or black with silver. The SP8 also allows for increased head cooling with Charles Owen’s recent innovation in helmet airflow. All of this new rider protection and innovation is secured with the GRpx® technology harness to guarantee a snug fit.

Charles Owen also launched its latest BETA Level 3 body protector, the Kontakt 5. Engineered to meet the latest European body protector safety standards, the Kontakt 5 also maintains a slim line appearance with a focus towards increased safety.  Practical features include ventilation holes in Coolmax® fabric for superior breathability and comfort.  Spinal Grip technology secures the protector in place, without the “riding up” sometimes associated with body protectors.  The Kontakt 5 is the perfect complement to the Charles Owen line of innovative rider safety products.

The 2012 addition of the highly successful Pro II jockey skull is now available in a deep navy textured finish with matching lycra silk. The twelve ventilation slots offer a cooler ride whether on the cross country course or just out for a hack while the GRpx® technology harness provides a superior fit. To mark 2012, the matching lycra silk will be embroidered with the USA or Canadian flag in the iconic Charles Owen diamond at the back of the helmet.

Charles Owen is also pleased to announce its appointment as the distributor for Equiline Italia in North America. Already well established at the top European competitions, the Equiline Italia collection of rider show apparel and horse clothing provides beautiful styling and European cut with technically advanced features for easy care and comfort. A highlight of the Equiline Italia brand is the innovative X-COOL competition coat, a luxurious Italian piece of clothing that is highly regarded for its stretch, breathability exceptional weight and machine washable care. Riders that wear the coat are delighted with its elegant profile.

Roy Burek, Charles Owen Managing Director, commented, “We are pleased at Charles Owen to expand our range of rider safety coverage to include everything from skin protection to protective vests to new helmet styles and colors – all with the look and style of over 100 years of tradition. Our continued innovations coupled with decades of tradition also make Charles Owen the perfect partner to be the distributor for Equiline Italia in North America.”

The new Charles Owen safety products, along with the Equiline Italia Fall/Winter Collection, will all be launched at the American Equestrian Trade Association International Trade Show, January 28 – 30 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.
