Charles Owen Pony Racing Champions 2011

Young pony racing jockeys Charlotte Greenway and Ned Curtis were named Champions of the 2011 Charles Owen Pony Racing Series last weekend at Aintree Racecourse.
The finals were held on Saturday 22 October at Aintree where legendary jockeys AP McCoy and Ruby Walsh joined Charles Owen’s Managing Director Roy Burek to present trophies and scholarship awards to the winners.

Charlotte Greenway rode an impressive 6f on Push The Button to win the 138cm and under race. While Ned Curtis on Miss Wonderful took the 148cm and under race across 9f.
Roy Burek commented, “Charles Owen is proud to support the Pony Racing initiative, which builds a stronger base of riders within the sport of racing. It’s a pleasure to watch the young jockeys progress and improve throughout the series.”
Rebecca Morgan, Chief Executive of the Pony Racing Authority, said: “The 2011 Charles Owen Pony Racing Series has been the most competitive and successful yet, and is underpinned by the many Pony Races that also take place at Point-to-Points and on Pony Club racedays.
The Rose Bengal scholarship and scholarship awards were also presented at the Charles Owen Championship. The awards are named after the racing pony Rose Bengal, who had three successful seasons from 2006-2008. The scholarship was awarded to a rider in each of the 138cm and 148cm who has shown commitment and improvement throughout the series. In the 138cm and under series, Hattie Heal took the award, while in the 148cm, Lorcan Mutagh was the winner. The leading rider awards went to George Crate and Ned Curtis for accumulating the most points throughout the series in the 138cm and 148cm, respectively.
